Anti-Hunger Group to Honor Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum; November 15 Reception to be Held at Time Warner Center
The New York City Coalition Against Hunger, a nonprofit umbrella group for the city’s more than 1,200 food pantries and soup kitchens, will honor Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum at a fundraising cocktail reception to be held at the Time Warner Center on Wednesday, November 15.
The reception will take place at 60 Columbus Circle, 17th floor, Manhattan, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $100 for supporters, $500 for patrons, and $1,000 for sponsors. Contributions to the Coalition are tax deductible. To RSVP or obtain more information about the event or the Coalition, contact Stephanie Lin at (212) 825-0028, ext. 208, slin@nyccah.org or visit the Coalition’s web site at www.nyccah.org.
Joel Berg, executive director of the Coalition, said, “Since the first day Betsy Gotbaum became Public Advocate nearly five years ago, she has been one of the city’s leading champions in the fight against hunger. Every time low-income and hungry New Yorkers have needed Betsy, she’s been there. To add to that, in the decades before becoming Public Advocate, Betsy amassed an incredibly impressive record in a wide variety of top civic roles. Holding a reception to recognize her – and the vital anti-hunger work of her office – is the least we could do to honor this incredible record of achievement.”
“I am honored that the Coalition is recognizing me in this manner,” said Gotbaum. “There is no issue I care about more deeply than the hunger and food insecurity that inflict misery and worry on more than one million low-income New Yorkers. I am especially thankful to have the opportunity to raise money for the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, one of the nation’s most effective and innovative anti-poverty organizations.”
The prime sponsors of the event are: East Side Entrees, a major supplier of nutritious food products to school systems across America and founder of the national “got breakfast?” campaign against child hunger; Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, the country’s premier organization for marketing and sales of luxury residential and hotel condominiums; and 10 West End Avenue, a new residential condominium tower on Manhattan’s West Side.
Members of the Event Committee include: Emily Conner, Joseph M. Cohen, Dorothy Cullman, Lewis B. Cullman, Gary Davis, the Hon. David Dinkins, Bisi Iderabdullah, Sara Kennedy, Andrew Malek, Christina Pak, the Hon. Christine Quinn, Daniel B. Ripps, Jerry Shore, Sandra Silverman, Lynn Sobel, and Pastor Carol Vedral.
Said Gary Davis, CEO of East Side Entrees, “Both the Coalition Against Hunger and Betsy Gotbaum have been national leaders in the vital work to ensure that more eligible low-income children receive nutritious school breakfasts, after-school snacks, and summer meals. The ‘got breakfast?’ campaign believes that through such strategic alliances we can combat child hunger, and we are privileged to have them as partners. We are proud to support their work which has made a difference in reducing hunger among children.”
Said Kelly Kennedy Mack, President of Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, “Our company firmly believes that success must go hand-in-hand with responsibility to the greater community. We are thrilled to both aid the fight against hunger in New York, and honor the important contributions that Betsy Gotbaum has made to the city."
The Coalition Against Hunger works in all five boroughs of the City to meet the immediate food needs of low-income New Yorkers and enact innovative solutions to help them move "beyond the soup kitchen" to self-sufficiency. It was recently awarded the prestigious Harry Chapin Self-Reliance Award by World Hunger Year.
