New York City AmeriCorps Program Participates in First-Ever National AmeriCorps Week, May 13-20
New York City Coalition Against Hunger is teaming up with other New York City AmeriCorps programs to participate in the first-ever National AmeriCorps Week. This inaugural event will consist of a full week of events and volunteer activities throughout the city that will be performed by current AmeriCorps and VISTA members, as well as alumni, grantees, and friends of AmeriCorps.
The purpose of National AmeriCorps Week is to bring more people into national service, as well as highlight the broad impact AmeriCorps has throughout the United States and in individual communities. There are thousands of AmeriCorps and VISTA members participating in national service at hundreds of non-profit agencies in New York City alone! These volunteers are enhancing communities throughout all five boroughs by working on projects pertaining to environmental preservation, hunger and poverty alleviation, healthy food access, immigrant rights, education, and affordable housing.
In partnership with other non-profit agencies in the city, New York City Coalition Against Hunger has organized 13 volunteer events to take place Monday, May 13th through Saturday, May 19th. The kickoff event will take place at Yorkville Common Pantry in East Harlem at 10am with speeches by Joel Berg, Executive Director of NYCCAH, and a representative from Yorkville Common Pantry.
