The Craig Murphey Fellowship Fund

Craig Murphey was a young community organizer and anti-poverty advocate whose life was cut short in a tragic bike accident in 2007. He served in the VISTA National Service Program at the New York City Coalition Against Hunger (NYCCAH) and then worked as the community organizer with the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine and the West Harlem Action Network Against Poverty (WHANAP).Craig was known by most for his roaring laugh, contagious smile and outrageous dancing that kept us all entertained.

In the spirit of Craig's life, NYCCAH worked with WHANAP to begin the Craig Murphey Fellowship Fund to support a fellowship program focused on anti-hunger, community-based work. The 2012 Craig Murphey fellow will work on providing technical assistance to food pantries and soup kitchens throughout New York City.

5th Annual Craig Murphey Fellowship Fundraiser

On Sunday, October 16, 2011 NYCCAH held the 5th annual Craig Murphey Fellowship Fundraiser at Public Assembly in Brooklyn. The annual event commemorates Craig's life, celebrates the joy he brought to everyone who knew him, and raises money to help continue his anti-hunger, anti-poverty work. Last year's event raised nearly $10,000 and included a hummus cookoff, karaoke, and the always popular raffle with prizes provided by local businesses and artists. For more information please visit CraigMurphey.com and stay tuned for 2012 event details.
